Simon Wheatley
Bilbao in Transition
Bilbao 02 - 06 October 2006
Spain has lived a course of transition over the past 30 years. From dictatorship to democracy, heavy industry and agriculture to tourism, the modernization of the country and it's entrance into NATO and the EU has created an interesting dynamic. With the city of Bilbao as subject matter, the workshop will attempt to capture this.
During the five days of the workshop participants will be asked to try and communicate the idea of transition in original and innovative ways. Some may choose to photograph the city's architecture and others may concentrate on the people: the native population, the growing immigrant communities and the visitors to the city, whom together form part of the changing urban fabric. By photographing individually and editing as a group, the aim of this workshop is to achieve images that will somehow merge the different elements into frames that reflect the county's complexity.
This workshop will be broken down in to classroom sessions and time spent photographing. Participants will have the opportunity to look at and discuss Simon Wheatley's work and the work of other photographers.
Each participant should also bring a portfolio of work with them to the workshop.
