Alessandra Sanguinetti
Barcelona 21 - 25 October 2007 with the collaboration of Centre de Fotografia Documental de Barcelona
Storytelling: Creating a Visual Narrative through Environmental Portraiture.
In this five-day intensive workshop with Alessandra Sanguinetti, students will concentrate on a single project and tell the story of a person through traditional and non-traditional approaches to portraiture. A photographic story, like all stories, can be of a real event, it can be made up, or it can be a mix of both. Participants will investigate the implications of this and the different approaches to storytelling and portraiture through slide presentations and discussion.
Alessandra will ask each student to choose a subject. Through their photographs, they will explore the reasons for that choice, their intentions, and how to best approach the subject in order to successfully convey their ideas. They will be encouraged to explore the psychological, emotional and technical aspects of portraiture, learning how to develop a relationship and collaboration with their subject.
There are no rules in storytelling. It can be a traditional narrative sequence, linear or non-linear. This depends on the storyteller and the story to be told. In creating images students will explore these different approaches and have an introduction to editing and sequencing a story.
