Damascus Gallery

Alaa Hassan was born Damascus 1986. Alaa studies Archaeology at the University of Damascus, Syria.  When he was 14 years old he saw a photograph of a Palestinian child with a stone in his hand facing a tank. The photograph had a tremendous effect on Alaa and he understood from then on the importance of the visual document. He started photographing just three months prior to the workshop.

Youth in Syria " We are as normal as anyone in Europe or the United States but we are also different.  We have the same problems, frustrations, hopes - our lives are common like yours, we are like you. But we are also different just not in the way people think."
